About me
Hi, I’m Ava — a Public Policy student at Duke University with minors in Journalism & Media Studies and Environmental Science & Policy. I’m a passionate reader and writer, committed to using those skills in a career where I can effect change in environmental & food policy, civil discourse, and governmental accountability.
At Duke, I serve as a Senior Reporter for The Chronicle, where I cover campus politics, environmental issues, and government affairs. My work has strengthened my ability to translate complex policy topics into compelling narratives that inform and engage our audiences.
I’ve gained hands-on policy experience through roles at the New York League of Conservation Voters, the Sanford School of Public Policy, and in state-level political campaigns. From analyzing lead-testing laws in schools to researching critical mineral policy, I’ve developed a strong foundation in data-informed policy analysis and environmental advocacy.
Beyond the classroom and newsroom, I co-founded and lead Duke Blue Crew, a student initiative uplifting women’s varsity athletics through programming, event support, and student-athlete collaboration.
I’m driven by the belief that informed policy and strong journalism are powerful tools for public good. I hope to continue working at the intersection of environmental leadership, public service, and storytelling to advance equitable and sustainable solutions.
